TURA: After having served the Congress party for forty long years, former minister Frankenstein W Momin on Tuesday officially resigned from the primary membership of the party.
The veteran Congress leader from North Garo Hills sent his resignation letter to the district Congress committee.
“I actively served the Indian National Congress for nearly 40 long years in my own humble way, yet I am now not happy with the undemocratic functioning of the party in Meghalaya,” said Momin in his resignation.
The former legislator from Mendipathar constituency has been at loggerheads with Chief Minister Mukul Sangma whom he has accused of being ‘dictatorial’ and failing to take the party along in the decision making process.
Momin had joined the Congress in 1976 and was an MLA for three terms. During the chief ministership of Salseng C Marak in 1993 he was appointed the lone parliamentary secretary to oversee PWD, Supply and other departments.
During the same tenure of Marak’s chief ministership, Momin was elevated to the rank of Cabinet minister in charge of Arts and Culture.
When B.B. Lyngdoh aligned with the Congress to form a coalition government in Meghalaya, post the 1997 Assembly elections, Momin was made Education minister. He went on to retain the ministry for another two terms. He was also minister of state for health and during his last tenure as a legislator was made the C&RD minister.
Denying any move to quit politics, he said that a decision on his future plan of action would soon be made after consultation with his supporters.
