SHILLONG: The United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM) has demanded the withdrawal of declaration of Byrnihat-Khanapara as urban area within 30 days besides opposing any ‘encroachment’ by MUDA in the area.
In a letter submitted to Urban Affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh, UHM sought a clarification over the alleged encroachment by MUDA in the jurisdiction of Hima Mylliem and the KHADC.
The organization asserted that no meeting was conducted by the department to seek public opinion, from the headmen and Syiem Raid Marwet on the issue.
The organization also questioned MUDA’s decision to declare the Industrial Estate as “Scheme Area”.
The UHM threatened to launch agitation if the department failed to meet its demands soon.
