Cabinet streamlines Central Recruitment Board

SHILLONG: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved officials at the posts of Additional Director General of Police or Inspector General of Police to head the Central Recruitment Board instead of Additional Director General of Police, Training and Armed Police (TAP).
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Home Minister Roshan Warjri said that the move was aimed at bringing a transparent recruitment system.
They also said that this was done for wider choice and to create avenues for flexibility.
Both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister, however, avoided the question related to senior police official BL Buam, ADGP, TAP who is currently holding the post of Chairman, Central Recruitment Board.
Earlier, Opposition member and UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh had raised the issue of lack of transparency in the recruitment by the police with particular reference to Buam who was holding the charge of ADGP, TAP.
The Cabinet also decided to increase the running time of female candidates both for the posts of armed and un-armed personnel from 14 to 19 minutes.
Chopper service
The cabinet also extended the chopper service run by Pawan Hans helicopter by two more years. The Chief Minister said since 75% subsidy is provided by the Centre, the Cabinet decided to extend the service.
Dev Verma, Chairman, Food Commission
The Cabinet cleared the appointment of retired Additional Chief Secretary B K Dev Verma as the Chairman of State Food Commission for the smooth implementation of Food Security Act.
Other retired officers will be appointed as the members of the Commission.
Doctors appointed
The Cabinet also approved the appointment of as many as eleven non bonded doctors by amending the existing rule.
The Cabinet further approved the extension of service to retired Major Dr K I Singh to head as Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer for one year.
The service of Brig. (Retd) WJB Sturgeon was also extended for another one year as Director Sainik Welfare Board.
