SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), South West Circle alleged that Martin M. Danggo, MLA, Ranikor has underhandedly diverted the proposed Asian Development Fund (ADB) scheme meant for a school at Ranikor to be replaced by a school at Mawkyrwat.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Ialam Rngaid, general secretary, South West Khasi Hills said, “It is disappointing that the ADB funding meant for Nolikata Higher Secondary School at Qumakat, Ranikor under Ranikor block was diverted to Horirai Syiemlieh Higher Secondary School, Phodjaud, Rangthong which is under Mawkyrwat block.”
He added that the Nolikata School has the right to get and implement the scheme, “There are many students here comprising of Khasis, Nepali, Hajong, Koch, Garo, Bengali etc and it is one of the schools that has produced some of the best results in matriculation examinations . At the same time the school was established decades back.”
Rngaid condemned the Danggo and Ambrose Ch. Marak, Director of State Education Literacy who the organization alleged have conspired to replace the school.
As per the letter from Marak, which revealed the scheme was diverted on the request of Danggo, where approval was given for the replacement of Nolikata Higher Secondary School at Qumakat, Ranikor by Horirai Syiemlieh Higher Secondary School, Phodjaud, Rangthong.
The HYC has urged the DSEL to maintain the scheme meant for Nolikata HS School, and have  served a deadline of 1 week to the Education Department to replace the Rs 1.4 crore funding from Horirai Syiemlieh Memorial Higher Secondary School to Nolikata HS School.
