125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar concludes

SHILLONG: The concluding function of the year-long state level celebrations of 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was held on Saturday at Congress Bhawan,Thana Road.
The function was chaired by Gilbert Sten, vice president while P.T. Sawkmie, MDC, Deputy CEM, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council graced the function as the chief guest.
The meeting was attended by party MDCs, members of State Level Organizing Committee of 125th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, MPCC office bearers, BCC presidents & office bearers, chiefs of Frontal Organizations and members, chairpersons of MPCC Cells and Departments, and other members and well wishers of the party.
In his speech Sawkmie thanked the party for having organized year-long celebration on the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
He observed that the life and teachings of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar, was more relevant to the present generation.
He noted how from a humble beginning Dr.B.R Ambedkar  rose to such a high  position and gave the Constitution to the people.
Chairman, Sten, gave a brief account the life of Dr. Ambedkar and his contribution to the Dalit movement and in framing of the constitution of India.
Others who spoke on the occasion included S.L. Singhania, senior member, Dr.Manash Das Gupta, general secretary, MPCC & Convener, State Level 125th Birthday Celebrations Committee,  James S.Lyngdoh, general secretary, MPCC, Banangsan Tynsong, general secretary, Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress.
