SHILLONG: Congress will emerge victorious in elections to Meghalaya Legislative Assembly scheduled for 2018, said Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief DD Lapang.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a protest rally organized by the party against what it termed as undemocratic and vindictive actions of the Centre against the Congress-ruled states at Congress Bhawan here, Lapang said, “In 2018 elections Congress will perform better than the last time and will form government with an absolute majority.”
On being queried about the reported confrontations within the party fold he said, “Congress is a big family and in a big family there will be confrontations, difference of opinions. But this will not affect the party’s performance in 2018 elections.”
Earlier, speaking at the protest rally, Lapang came down heavily on the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government for selectively targeting and destabilizing the Congress-ruled state governments in the country.
“We condemn the elements of rudeness, of vindictiveness and partiality of the NDA government. People will teach them a lesson at an appropriate time,” Lapang said.
“It (NDA government) has done it in Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and in Assam as well in the past and they will not spare Meghalaya,” Lapang said.
