SHILLONG: In the wake of the State Government’s delay in releasing Scholarships, the Shillong Polytechnic Students Union (SPSU) staged a sit-in protest at Polytechnic campus on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Longlang D Malngiang, president of the Union said, “The government has failed to release the scholarship, of over 90 per cent of the students of the Institute and does not take up the trouble of addressing other issues of the students.”
He informed that scholarship of the year 2014-2015 has not been released and this has caused immense trouble for the students from poor back ground.
On October 19 last year, they met the Minister Incharge Education Prof. RC Laloo to apprise him of the problem where the Minister said the department is still waiting and have not yet received scholarship.
Moreover, the students are facing the final semester and other examinations; there is still no news of the scholarship.
They criticized the state Government for spending huge amount of money for festivals and Meghalaya House but are indifferent towards the needs of the students.
