City based scientist among world’s 500 most influential toxicologists

International recognition for NEHU scientist

SHILLONG: Senior Scientist associated with the Electron Microscopy Division, Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility (SAIF), North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, Dr Sudip Dey, FRMS (Oxford), has been conferred with the prestigious Grignard Research Award-2016 in Toxicology and Fellow, Directorate of Toxicology, IASR by the International Agency for Standards and Ratings (IASR), USA for his outstanding scientific contribution in Toxicology involving Electron Microscopy.
The extensive research work of Dey, a resident of Lumparing area of the city in the field of Toxicology include environmental acid stress, toxicity related to environmental pollution caused by municipal wastes, city garbage, bleached sulphite pulp mill effluents and heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, nickel etc.
Besides being a Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society (FRMS), Oxford, he is also a Fellow of Electron Microscopy Society of India, member of European Microscopy Society, Microscopy Society of America and National Academy of Science, India. He has been the guest editor of the Journal of Advanced Microscopy Research, USA besides holding various other positions and achievements to his name.
The award citation to Dr Dey states, “IASR extends best wishes for your endeavours enlightening scientific domain with your efforts. 7011 nominations from individuals and organizations were received from 89 countries for the batch. IASR recognizes Dr Sudip Dey among World’s 500 Most Influential Toxicologists for the Year 2016 on Earth.”
