Wahlang ‘assures’ to address teachers’ grievances

SHILLONG: A 16-member delegation of the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers’ Association (AMPSTA) met Commissioner and Secretary, Education, DP Wahlang here on Friday to seek immediate redressal of their recently submitted demands.
The teachers’ body had on April 8 demanded the confirmation of service of Government and non-Government lower primary school teachers besides asking for CPF and Death Cum Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) and head teachers’ allowance.
The teachers’ body informed that Wahlang assured to take up the matter of confirmation of service with the Director of School Education and to direct all the Sub Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEOs) to complete the confirmation at the earliest.
With regard to CPF and DCRG the Commissioner and Secretary, Education said that in a notification dated September 3, 2015 it was stated that deficit non government lower primary schools meant schools enjoying Government scale of pay without allowances.
However, the association demanded that “without allowances” be replaced by “with allowances”.
The association said that Wahlang committed that the necessary changes will be made soon.
The Commissioner and Secretary informed the teachers that he will discuss the nonpayment of head teachers’ allowance under the jurisdiction of the SDSEO in charge Nongpoh, with the Director to ascertain the anomaly.
