SHILLONG: The State Health department is yet to depute experts to conduct a study on the nature of mushroom being consumed by people in the rural areas.
Recently, 15 people (6 each from East Khasi Hills and South Garo Hills, and three from Jaintia Hills) died after consuming wild mushroom.
Sources said that Health department does not have experts to test mushrooms.
Soon after the recent mushroom deaths, Rophul Marak, MLA, had said that there was a need to conduct state wise scientific study to categorize poisonous and non-poisonous mushrooms.
