Jowai school celebrates Platinum jubilee

JOWAI: Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education, R.C. Laloo, on Tuesday inaugurated the long year platinum jubilee celebration of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Jowai at Jrisalein Playground here.
Speaking on the occasion, Laloo expressed joy and thankfulness to God for giving him a chance to be a part of the platinum jubilee of the school of which he was a student and a teacher. He expressed gratitude to his teachers for having molded his life during his school days and credited the school for the success he had achieved in his career.
He lauded the school for producing many prominent personalities and hoped that the future generation of students will also do well in their life by being obedient, honest and sincere in their studies. Parliamentary Secretary in charge Education, W.D. Sangma, congratulated the school for having served the society for 75 years and producing outstanding personalities.
Earlier, principal of the school, M. Pde, welcomed all to the platinum jubilee celebration while secretary of the platinum jubilee celebration, R. Dhar, gave a brief history of the school which started way back in 1941.
In the initial stage the school was run from the Welsh Mission M.E. School building. Later on the government built a thatched house and rented two private buildings where classes continued to be run for 13 years.
In 1952 the school building was constructed on the Magazine hillock and in 1955 the school was shifted to the permanent site where it is located at present. The school introduced the 10+2 level in 1962.
The celebration was marked by cutting of the jubilee cake by the deputy chief minister and march past, mass drill and cultural programmes performed by the students.
The celebration was attended by retired principals, retired teachers, alumni, teachers, students and well wishers of the school.
