SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC stormed into the final of the U-15 Youth League in Goa beating United SC 3-0 on Tuesday.
Consistent performers throughout the tourney, Rheadolf Nongneng and Phrangki Buam rose to the occasion yet again scoring a goal each in first half while Modester Matlai chipped in with a late goal to complete a 3-0 rout of United SC.
The Royals will face Minerva Academy FC in the final of the tourney on April 29.
Earlier, the Royals started on a dominating note at the Nagoa Ground in Goa and almost took the lead after a neat exchange between Rheadolf and Santosh Singh upfront but a brilliant save by the rival custodian denied early glory to the Shillong side.
Finally the hard work paid off when Rheadolf scored tapped in of a rebound in the 37th minute. The Royals took firm control of the tie when barely three minutes later Phrangki made it 2-0 for RWFC as the sides went into the break.
Crossing over, United were kept at bay by the Royals defense and an 89th minute goal by super sub Modester sealed the deal for RWFC.
It may be mentioned that the Royals have maintained an unbeaten record in the youth tournament so far both in the qualifying and final rounds and are just one step away from the ultimate glory.
A victory will be a major boost to the youth programme of the club, said an RWFC official.
