SHILLONG/ JOWAI: The heavy downpour that lashed parts of the State on Thursday night after a week long spell of hot weather condition brought respite, but it also caused damages in East Jaintia Hills.
While the extent of the damages in East Khasi Hills are yet to be known, reports from East Jaintia Hills said hailstones of the size of cricket balls hit Nongsning village in East Jaintia Hills and its surroundings  on Thursday at around 11:10 PM damaging  several houses.
Kupbor Siangshai, a resident of Nongsning village, informed that the villagers were panic stricken after their houses were damaged due to the hailstorm accompanied by thunder squalls, heavy rains and high velocity winds.
Adding to the chaos, the village is without electricity for the last four days and the villagers are finding it difficult to speak to their friends and  relatives as their smart phones were out of batteries.
“Only those who are using ordinary handsets can use their phones,” Siangshai added.
