SHILLONG: Congress legislator Dikkanchi Shira, who is contesting the by-poll to Tura Lok Sabha seat has quit the post of Chairperson of Meghalaya Resource and Employment Generation Council.
An official source said on Saturday that in her resignation letter sent to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on April 26, Shira said that since she was contesting the Lok Sabha poll, she decided to resign from the current post of the chairperson of Meghalaya Resource and Employment Generation Council which is under Planning Department.
However, the resignation of Shira has raised questions on whether the post she was holding was an office of profit.
Sources said that resigning from the post of Chairperson of Meghalaya Resource and Employment Generation Council was perhaps to avoid any complications during the filing of nominations.
Earlier, the Congress member Gabriel Wahlang, before contesting the Nongstoin by-poll last year had quit the post of Vice Chairman of Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
Wahlang, who was a nominated MDC had to relinquish that post too following the passing of the Bill which debarred holding dual post.
