RESUBELPARA: The District Agriculture Officer (DAO) of North Garo Hills, I.B. Talang, has landed in trouble after he was allegedly caught by pressure group members stealing government properties.
The pressure groups have lodged a complaint with the deputy commissioner demanding necessary action against the officer.
Police said the matter was being inquired into and added that the pressure groups have been asked to file FIR in this regard.
According to the pressure groups, the official was in the habit of stealing government properties since the time of his taking charge as District Agriculture Officer in 2013.
Office materials like power generator, Xerox machine and other valuable items have been shipped off to his permanent residence in Jaintia Hills, the pressure groups alleged.
On Sunday morning Talang allegedly had an argument with some office staff about missing government materials like four rollers of barbed wire (fencing), maize seeds, survey materials, PVC water supply pipes, sacks of rice seeds, agriculture field wheels and other items.
The pressure group leaders – Takin N. Areng of the GSU and Jagir M. Sangma of FAF – waited for him on the road side near Rajapara on Sunday.
When they saw the official vehicle of Talang bearing registration number ML 01 8064, they stopped the vehicle and carried out a search and discovered the stolen materials.
The pressure groups members then informed Resubelpara police station which in turn informed the A’dokgre police outpost.
After the materials were seized from Adokgre, the officer was taken to Resubelpara. Subsequently, a complaint was made to the deputy commissioner.
The district police chief has asked the pressure group leaders to file a proper FIR in this connection.
