SHILLONG: Following the threat to a 19-year-old boy by three co-accused in a theft case, the Dorbar Shnong of Shilliang-Donki under Sohiong constituency has  decided to seek the help of police.
Borlang Marwein who was arrested on robbery charges along with three others alleged that the trio threatened to kill his mother and him if he informed the police of their involvement in the robbery.
Marwein, while addressing a press conference on Thursday, said that the robbery was planned by a gang of four members including him to loot Lam Jingshai Secondary School, Dongki, Sohiong in November last year.
Marwein, was arrested along with three others – Simon Kyrsian, Johnystar Kharngi and Arbor Kyrsian for their involvement in stealing Rs 2.63 lakh from the school on November last year.
However, while the three were released on bail in December last year,  Marwein was released on May 2.
Marwein had confessed before the Dorbar Shnong that he had to admit that he had committed the theft alone because the three accused had threatened to kill him, his mother and even the headman and village functionaries if he dared to disclose their names.
In this context, the Dorbar Shnong of Shilliang-Donki, decided to seek police intervention into the alleged threats by three thieves. Village sordar MSK Jana who was also present during the press briefing said that the decision to seek police intervention was taken at a Dorbar meeting convened on Wednesday after Marwein who was arrested in connection with the same theft case sought the help of the Village Dorbar.
Marwein, who was also present in the press conference, said that the threats were made to him when all of them got arrested and were taken to Sadar police station before they were sent to the Shillong District Jail.
“In the district jail, we were kept together and there they beat me and threatened that if I disclose their names to the police or the court, they would kill my mother, the village head and members,” he said.
According to Marwein, fearing something might happen to his family especially his mother he had sought help from the Dorbar.”
Marwein’s mother is working as a chowkidar of the school, when he and his friends had committed the theft. It was his mother who disclosed to the Sohiong police about the crime.
