Inter School athletic meet concludes

Close to 700 athletes participate in the two-day event in Ampati

AMPATI: The two day Inter-school athletic meet 2016 that saw participation by 16 schools and 680 athletes from all over South West Garo Hills district concluded on Wednesday at Ampati Mini Stadium.
The athletic meet, which is an annual affair, is organised by the District Sports officer under directive from the department of Sports and Youth Affairs and aims at incorporating sports in daily activities of school going students.
370 male and 310 female athletes from 16 schools categorized under three groups, under-14, under-16 and above-16 participated in close to 80 track and field events during the two-day event.
St. Claret Secondary School emerged as team champions in both the boys under-14 and under-16 category while Ampati Government Higher Secondary School bagged the team trophy in the above-16 category. Ampati Government Higher Secondary School and Salmanpara Secondary School bagged the team’s trophy in the girl’s under-14 and under-16 category respectively while Ampati Government Higher Secondary School bagged the team trophy in the girl’s above-16 category.
Other trophies include best athlete bagged by Edilbath Marak, Jidham Sangma and Suder Hajong in the boy’s under-14, under-16 and above-16 category respectively while in the girls category Sanchina Sangma, Malliam Sangma and Jaksrame D Shira bagged the best athletes title.
The chief guest on the concluding day was South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh who later gave away the trophies to the winning teams and athletes under various categories.
Earlier District Sports Officer Jasper P Marak informed the participants that selected athletes will be competing in the state level meet which will be held at the state capital in the coming week.
