Agartala : To pursue the demand of a separate tribal state elevating Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) to “Twipra land”, tribal based opposition Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) announced to block National Highway 44 and Agartala-Silchar railway line on June 22 and June 23 next.
The blockade will be at Baramura hill range in eastern Agartala, said, IPFT president Narendra Debbarma.
He said since 2009 IPFT has been carrying on peaceful democratic movement one after another in Tripura and national capital city of Delhi for the sole demand of elevation of sixth schedule areas (TTAADC) of Tripura and to a separate full-fledged state of ‘Twipra land’.
He also demanded for stopping of distribution of ‘khas’ land and forest reserve land in ADC areas of the state to the non-tribal families and said, “All the non-tribal families, who have been allotted and occupied the ‘khas’ land and reserve forest land in ADC areas should be evicted and rehabilitated outside of the scheduled areas of the state”.
IPFT also demanded to the union Home Minister to initiate a tripartite meeting on the issue of creation of separate ‘Twipra land’. (UNI)
