Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said Japanese Embassy has requested to provide 15,000 trained nurses from the state to work in Japan.
Addressing an event held here to celebrate International Nurses Day, 2016, Ibobi said there is a great demand of trained nurses from Manipur in South East Asian countries.
“This is because of the quality of our nurses who serve the patients with a kind and sympathetic heart and their sacrifice in the profession is widely appreciated,” he added.
Expressing the importance of cleanliness in the health care system, he assured of looking into the matter of reintroducing Uniform Allowance and Risk Allowance to the nurses.
Health and Family Welfare Minister D K Korungthang appealed to the nurses not to discriminate the patients on the grounds of caste, creed, rural, urban or hill and valley. As a part of the function, nursing advisors and retired nurses were felicitated and the Best Overall Nurse Award, Prizes for National Cleanliness Day held at JNIMS etc were also distributed.  International Nurses Day is celebrated every year all over the world on May 12 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the modern nursing founder Florence Nightingale.
