PM to lay base of Ampati stadium, flag off three train services

SHILLONG: Shillong is being decked up to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is arriving on a two-day visit to the state on May 27.
Modi is scheduled to address the North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting to be held here on the same day with focus on overall development of the region.
During his visit, he will address a rally in which he is expected to talk about two years of NDA rule, since it will be coinciding with the second anniversary of his government.
Stringent security measures have been put in place in Shillong and surrounding areas in view of Modi’s maiden visit to the State
According to official sources, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of a multi-facility stadium to be constructed at Ampati  from Shillong .
He will also flag off three train services.
A top official of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said that Modi on May 27 would also flag off a regular passenger train service from Agartala to Sealdah, Agartala to Silchar and passenger train services to Manipur (52 km) and Mizoram (84 km) on the newly-laid broad gauge line.
” From Shillong through remote control, the Prime Minister would lay the foundation stone of the Agartala (India)-Akhaura (Bangladesh) railway project,” a top official of NFR told a news agency.
Later, Modi  will meet  representatives of different organizations at Raj Bhawan.
On the same night, a cultural programme will be organized in honour of the Prime Minister at the State Convention Centre here.
According to sources, before  his departure on May 28 he would visit different places in and around Shillong for sightseeing.
BSF tightens security: BSF Meghalaya frontier has strengthened its security apparatus along the Indo-Bangla border   in view of Modi’s visit to the state capital.
A BSF official said that   troops from headquarters have been augmented along the border to ensure fool proof security along the border.
“We are putting our men in suspected routes too to ensure that militants do not  cross over,” a senior BSF official said. (With inputs from agencies)
