SHILLONG: In 1998, he came and went unnoticed without any euphoria being evoked in the city.
18 years later, his visit has generated widespread interests among all sections of people here.
Narendra Modi, who was the BJP general secretary (Organization), had attended a meeting of BJYM at Hotel Polo Towers in 1998, sharing the dais with A.L. Hek, the then president of BJYM and Minister of State, Primary Education.
Hek, who is now a Cabinet minister in the Congress led MUA-II government, recalled the meeting addressed by Modi in 1998.
“It was the national executive meeting of BJYM and many BJP members from outside the State and late BJP leaders T.H. Rangad and N.N. Simchang were also present,” Hek stated on Thursday.
According to Hek, Modi who spoke in Hindi stressed on the need to
popularize BJP in the NE.
“His dream has now come true in the form of BJP getting its own government in Assam,” Hek said.
