World No Tobacco Day
The Art of Living Shillong observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31 by organizing yoga stretches, pranayama, meditation and counselling programme on the ill effects of tobacco in various schools in Shillong. The Art of Living has adopted few schools in Shillong to create awareness and to make them tobacco free. Nearly 600 students of various schools were benefitted from these sessions.
Prohibitory orders
In view of water crisis being reported in Tura and its surrounding areas, the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner has issued prohibitory orders against random and unauthorized extraction of stone and sand from catchment areas and all water bodies within the district, rampant felling of trees and unscientific Jhum activities near water bodies, dumping of all kinds of pollutants in water bodies and wastage and excessive usage of water for slaughter houses, markets, service stations etc.
Seminar, debate
Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School will organize an Inter School Science Seminar on June 3 at 10:30 AM. The school will also organize the 13th Inter School Debate competition on June 2 at 11 AM.
