SHILLONG: With KHADC Chief Executive Member P.N. Syiem, who was fighting a lone battle against the dual post Bill, finally getting a clean chit into controversy, the MLAs who had resigned from the post of MDCs are now blaming the State government over the entire mess and are demanding recall of the resignations.
Rambrai Jyrngam MLA K.P. Pangniang on Thursday said it is the State government which should take full responsibility and clarify its stand on unnecessarily introducing the dual post Bill.
While stating that the government should recall all the resignation letters submitted by the MDCs last year, he said people are suffering in those constituencies which do not have MDCs.
“The development work in those constituencies has been affected since those constituencies are without MDCs,” he said.
On the other hand, Nongkrem MLA Ardent M. Basaiawmoit, who had also resigned from the post of MDC, said he would take up the post of MDC again as he cannot do justice to both the posts simultaneously.
He further mentioned that the MLAs and MDCs in the Assembly were not against the dual post Bill but were only against the timing of introduction of the Bill.
While making it abundantly clear that he would not contest the MDC election again, he added that the work load becomes too heavy when a same person is the MLA as well as the MDC of a constituency.
“I only contested the MDC election because I was compelled by my people to contest the election,” he said. NCP legislator Sanbor Shullai and UDP’s Metbah Lyngdoh refused to comment on the matter, saying that they had not seen the order.
Congress legislator H.D.R. Lyngdoh also could not be contacted for his reaction on the issue.
Following the introduction of the dual post bill, as many as seven MLAs – H.D.R. Lyngdoh (Nongspung- Sohiong), Sanbor Shullai (Laban-Mawprem), Ardent M. Basaiawmoit (Nongkrem), K.P. Pangniang (Rambrai-Jyrngam), Metbah Lyngdoh (Mairang-Nongkhlaw), Brolding Nongsiej (Mawthadraishan) and Stephanson Mukhim (Amlarem) had resigned from the post of MDC.
