World Environment Day
The State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, Meghalaya in collaboration with Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, National Innovation Foundation, New Delhi and WIPRO, Bengaluru will be celebrating World Environment Day from June 7-10 which will be attended by students from all 39 C&RD blocks of the State.
The Samla Khlieh Shnong Malki will observe the silver jubilee celebration as well as World Environment Day on June 4 by conducting tree plantation at Children’s Park, Khlieh Shnong at 9 AM. The youth organization will organize the drawing competition and essay writing at 12:30 PM.
On account of World Environment Day 2016, The Partners of Pla Iew Club in collaboration with The Shillong Club Ltd. (Golf Section) and the Meghalaya Golf Promoters’ Society is organizing a one day awareness programme on June 5 on the theme ‘My Golf Links, My Pride’ from 1 PM onwards at the Shillong Golf Course.
Flash mob
As part of its World Environment Day celebration, 10-12 students of Gitanjali Dance Academy are going to perform a street play which is a flash mob to make the public aware on the alarming issues of day to day life. The flash mob will take place near MUDA Complex at 4:30 PM on June 4.
Students of Martin Luther Christian University on Friday performed a surprise flash mob at Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah. The students performed a song called ‘Global Warming’, and held charts with messages to make Earth greener. The students came together from the different departments with the objective to create awareness on global warming during World Environment Day.
Programme telecast
Media Plus, a local English news channel, will telecast a programme on the life and works of Father Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh at 9 AM on Saturday. The programme will include an interview with Arch Bishop Most Rev. Dominic Jala, HS Shylla, Sylvanus Lamare and S.D. Khongwir.
Convocation
Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Shillong, will distribute certificates to about 2,500 of its trainees in the convocation to be held in two sessions on June 4. Chief Secretary, K.S. Kropha and Principal, St. Edmund’s College, Sylvanus Lamare will be present in the morning session, while Swami Shashankanandaji, Senior Monk, Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math, and Kh. Siile Anthony, Director (HRD&E), NEC, Shillong, are expected to be present in the afternoon session.
Programme
One day motivational programme on the theme ‘Cooperative Movement for Socio-Economic and Cultural Development of the Society’ was held at the multi facility centre, Asanang in West Garo Hills on June 3. The programme was organized by the State Cooperation department.
Deepjyoti Socio Environmental Club of Bishnupur will host a ‘Bohagi Bidai’ programme on June 5 at Debo Kumar Memorial Hall, Bishnupur at 5 PM.

Donation
The State Bank of India as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility has donated eight stretcher trolleys and two wheelchairs to the Police Reserve Hospital, Shillong. An acknowledgement ceremony was held on June 3 attended by Bimal Deb Roy, AGM, Regional Business Office, Dhankheti, along with Batista Nongkynrih, Relationship Manager Cum-Liaison Officer (SBI) Administrative Office, Dhankheti, Shillong.
Free ration
Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust will launch a free monthly ration scheme and pension for the old and the poor on the Rilbong Hindu Dharma Sabha premises on June 5 at 10:30 AM.
