SHILLONG: The banned HNLC has asked Khasi- Jaintia political leaders to stay united and throw out the ‘dictatorial and inefficient leader’ Mukul Sangma.
HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw, in a statement to the press on Sunday, said, “The HNLC hereby warns the tainted MLAs who are offering their support to the chief minister.”
The militant outfit expressed gratitude to Seng Khasi        Mawsynram for submitting a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention to appoint an interlocutor to hold peace talks.
“At this juncture the HNLC has decided unanimously to forward the name of Disparsing Rani as interlocutor who shall be deemed fit to carry on forward the formalities of the proposed peace talks,” Nongtraw stated.
Pointing towards the chief minister, he said, “Right from the onset the chief minister has always been biased with the HNLC. The HNLC had always been sidelined and disregarded whenever it expressed its willingness to eschew violence and become a part of the mainstream.”
They alleged that the chief minister has been pleasing his own community aspirations.
“The composition of the MUA-II right from the start had ensured a biased plan favoring heavily one community over the other. This is the reason as to why his own party people and comrades are struggling hard to topple him down and compose a new cabinet,” he added.
Nongtraw said the infighting in the Congress is enough to prove that the party is itself incapable in running the affairs of the State.
Warning of more violence, he added, “Now the office of the Congress in the heart of the city shall become the next target of the HNLC. The HNLC shall never harm the public by blasts. But it is determined to let the State Police machinery taste IEDs.”
Showing its interest in holding dialogues and coming mainstream, he said the outfit has sent a direct communication to the Prime Minister and minister of Home Affairs to take interest in the upliftment of the Khasi- Jaintia community by taking action against the chief minister for turning a deaf ear to the proposed peace talks by the HNLC.
“The HNLC thereby rejects the state machinery MUA-II on the grounds of ethnic discrimination and unequal representation of the Khasi Jaintia people,” the statement further added.
