SHILLONG: Blame it on the Sunday cacoethes or plain government apathy, but this year the government did not hold any official function to mark the World Environment Day.
Unlike other states, Meghalaya did not have any programme lined up to observe the World Environment day on Sunday.
There was neither any statement from Chief Minister         Mukul Sangma nor from Governor V. Shanmuganathan regarding the observance of the day.
When contacted, an official said since it was Sunday, the government did not arrange any official level programme.
