SHILLONG: The banned HNLC has asked the ‘tainted’ MLAs to withdraw support to the chief minister, even as the outfit pointed out that the State government cannot provide them security 24 hours for five years and warned that if anything happens to them, the outfit will not be responsible.
According to the HNLC, it has no agenda to hold talks with the State government and will not come forward to surrender like UALA, ANVC and ANVC-B.
The outfit urged the NGOs, political parties and others opposing the chief minister to bring about a change in the political system.     In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said, “The allegations of the chief minister against us following our statement revealed that he is troubled with the presence of BJP and the HNLC.”
The outfit also stated that any talks or surrender is meaningless if the State government does not grant them freedom and fails to tackle the needs of the communities.
“Many times, we pointed out that peace is better than war and twice we had showed our interest to appoint an interlocutor but the government was indifferent towards us. We had even decided to not boycott Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations,” the HNLC said.
The outfit also said that it had planned a series of bombings to show that it is still strong as witnessed at Lad Rymbai and Jhalupara. “Unfortunately, the High Court and Secretariat are still out of reach,” the HNLC leader said.
He pointed out that the Indian government had provided asylum to Taslima Nasrin and others who had fought against Bangladesh and blamed the Indian government for ‘training’ Chakma rebels.
