SHILLONG: The KHADC is under criticism for filing a case in the High Court of Meghalaya for the delay on the part of the Governor in appointing MDC Donkupar Sumer as Executive Committee (EC) member in the district council.
Sources said that as per the district council rules, the Governor will appoint the EC member on the advice of the Chief Executive Member and for this, the KHADC should not have gone to the Court.
However an official source with the KHADC said that if the Governor had acted on the advice of the CEM, the legal tangle should have been avoided.
It was on May 16 that the KHADC had filed the petition seeking the intervention of the High Court for the delay on the part of the government in appointing Sumer as EC member.
Earlier, the KHADC had maintained  that the case was filed since there was undue delay on the part of the Governor and the State government in appointing Sumer though the KHADC CEM P.N. Syiem had forwarded the name to the Governor for his nod long back.
The CEM had on March 3 this year sent the name of Sumer for the approval of the Governor, and a reminder was also sent on April 22, but in vain.
According to sources, since the government has allegedly violated the legal rights of the KHADC, the intervention of the Court was sought.
