SHILLONG: In a tragic incident, a young soldier from Shillong was electrocuted during an Army exercise in Hyderabad on Monday morning.
The young army man, aged 20, identified as Bikram Chettri, hailed from Lawmali locality of the city, and belonged to the 52 Training Regiment Artillery Centre, Hyderabad.
A crestfallen K.B. Chettri, father of the young gunner, said the incident was very shocking for the entire family, even as he recalled his son as being very brave and strong.
“Every child thinks of becoming a doctor or engineer but since childhood my son used to say that he would be an army man,” the father said.
According to Chettri, his son always had the passion to join the armed forces and he used to go to several places for recruitment.
In a tragic irony, young Bikram had joined the Army on June 6 last year and died exactly on the first anniversary of his service.
A military funeral was held in his home at Lawmali where rich tributes were paid to the deceased soldier by the Army authorities.
