Fr Thomas Macheril passes away

SHILLONG: The Catholic Church of Northeast India has mourned the passing away of one of its theologians and canonists.
Fr. Macheril passed away on Saturday at Nazareth Hospital after a prolonged illness.
Fr. Thomas Macheril was born at Omalloor, Kottayam, Kerela on May 18, 1945. He was ordained as a priest for the Shillong Archdiocese, at Sojong Karbi Anglong on the November 21, 1971.
He worked in various parishes of Shillong Archdiocese before specializing in Church Law in Rome.
In a statement issued here, Archbishop Dominic Jala said that he is best remembered and loved as teacher of Canon Law and Moral Theology at Oriens Theological College and Sacred Heart Theological College Shillong.
His students include Arcbishop, Bishops, Provincials and generations of priests in the Northeast and            elsewhere in India.
“He was greatly appreciated for his practical wisdom and clarity of thought on religious and spiritual matters.   His passing away is a great loss to the Church in Northeast, especially to the Archdiocese of Shillong,” Archbishop Jala said.
