SHILLONG: Following a tip off, BSF troops seized 36 cattle at Gopinathkilla in South West Garo Hills on Monday.
Another 10 cattle were seized from other parts of the border including Lyngahat and Balughat taking the total number of seized cattle to 46.
The special ambush party of the BSF laid a trap while some smugglers along with the cattle were proceeding towards Bangladesh. While the smugglers managed to escape, the BSF party seized the cattle thus foiling the smuggling bid.
It has been learnt that these cattle were purchased from Ampati Haat by three suspected smugglers– Nandan Kaji, Nudu Miya and Reyazul Kaji, all from Mahenderganj and were kept at Gujangpara village.
The cattle were brought in a truck to Gopinathkilla border for handing over to Bangladeshi smuggler Anman Miya of Babula Kona village, Sherpur.
