Extortion charge against Sales Tax staff, MVIs

SHILLONG: Members of the North East Indigenous People’s Federation (NEIPF) have lodged two separate complaints against Sales Tax officials and Motor Vehicle Inspectors for extorting money from commercial vehicles plying through Umkiang and Ratacherra check gates respectively in East Jaintia Hills.
Ananais Suchiang of NEIPF lodged a complaint that Sales Tax officials – George Passah, Dao Lato and Samson Pohthmi, extorted money from commercial vehicles plying through Umkiang check gate in East Jaintia Hills. Similarly, Dilious Lyngdoh from the same organisation also lodged a complaint that one P. Tyngkan and one Geral Lyngdoh, both MVIs, extorted money from commercial vehicles plying through Ratacherra check gate.
