Deborah calls on AICC vice-president

New Delhi: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhi has expressed serious concern over the dwindling support base of Congress in Meghalaya.
Rahul made known his concern to the MPCC working president Deborah Marak when the latter called on him here on Wednesday.
Gandhi is perturbed by the alarming decline of vote share of Congress in Meghalaya in recent polls.
Rahul  was aghast over the defeat of Congress in all the recent polls in the state, Deborah told The Shillong Times after the meeting.
“He was perturbed by recent defeat in Tura by-poll as the party lost in all the 23 assembly segments barring one,” Deborah said.
Rahul’s statement assumes significance since only a  day before the newly-appointed AICC general secretary in-charge of Meghalaya CP Joshi had urged the top brass of the state Congress to remain united to defeat the evil design of the BJP to spread its wings in the region further.
“There has to be corrective measures and we have to go to the people to regain their confidence,” Gandhi said.
The Shillong MP Vincent H Pala met Joshi on Wednesday. “I did not discuss any political issue with him,” Pala told The Shillong Times before leaving for Shillong.
Meanwhile, both Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and the MPCC chief DD Lapang, who have been camping in the national capital for last several days, left for Shillong on Wednesday.
