SHILLONG: The Achik Youth Council (AYC) has demanded the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to appoint a regular pro-vice chancellor at the university’s campus in Tura.
In a memorandum submitted to the NEHU Vice Chancellor, AYC president Dimseng K. Marak said that the university’s Tura Campus has been running without a pro-vice chancellor since the retirement of Prof. E. D. Thomas.
“The campus needs full-pledged pro-vice chancellor to function properly,” the AYC said. The pressure group also demanded the appointment of a male residential doctor in the campus which is currently served by a lone female doctor. The organisation also called for the need to commence MPhil programmes in English, Garo, Computer Application and Management besides demanding for more master degree courses in the Tura campus.
Creation of post for permanent nurse, construction of academic buildings, 24×7 internet facility etc., were also among the demands.
