Murder angle to 2 girls’ suicide case

SHILLONG: A murder angle has emerged on the alleged ‘suicide’ case of two school girls from East Jaintia Hills after their hands were found tied together with a school tie when they were recovered from a coal quarry recently.
The Meghalaya  police said on Saturday,  “Their  bodies were found with their hands tied together with a school tie”.
The bodies of the two  school girls who went missing on  June 13 were recovered from an abandoned coal mine  at  Umsyllieh near Rymbai village,East Jaintia Hills  on June 16.
The duo, Pretty Pohplet of Syndai village and Romphin Shadap of Narwan village are students of Class VI in Khliehriat East Upper Primary School.  Shadap was staying with Khliehriat MDC Violet Shullet.
After they went missing, police had on June 14 recovered the school bag of one of the girls near the abandoned coal mine. It was from the school bag that the police recovered a suicide note purportedly written by both the girls.
Following the recovery of the bodies , Police are investigating whether   there is any foul play which led to their mysterious deaths.
Statement will also be taken from school authorities, police added.
