SHILLONG: Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar has taken over as the Senior Air Staff Officer at HQ Eastern Air Command, Shillong on Monday, a release issued here informed.
Nambiar is an alumnus of National Defense Academy and was commissioned in the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 1981 as a Flying Pilot. He is an Experimental Test Pilot and has the distinction of having the highest flying hours on Miarge 2000 aircraft in the IAF. He undertook the decisive precision attack on Tiger Hill during Kargil conflicts in 1999 and had also been the Project Test Pilot for the Light Combat aircraft ‘Tejas’, the release further informed.
The Air Officer has held various Command and staff appointments such as Defense Attache Israel, Principal Director Offensive Operations, Director of Space Application and Commandant Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment. He has also been Air Officer Commanding of Air Force Station Jamnagar, and Air Defence Commander of Western Air Command. Before his present appointment he was Senior Air Staff Officer at Southern Air Command and Training Command.
For his distinguished service, he was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vayu Sena Medal & Bar. The Air Marshal is married to Luxmi Nambiar and his son Ashwin Nambiar is pursuing a career in civil aviation, the release further informed.
