Will wipe out NPP in 2018 polls, says CM yet again

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has slammed BJP in charge of Meghalaya, Nalin Kohli, for his replicated prediction of a possible collapse of the Congress led MUA – II government, while at the same time ingeminating his assertion that the NPP would be wiped out of the State in the 2018 Assembly elections.
“If he (Nalin Kohli) does not do that he will be sacked by Narendra Modi,” the chief minister said on Wednesday.
Slamming the BJP, he said it is time for the party to come out of its euphoria and talk about development even as he ridiculed the statement of BJP about the lack of development activities in Meghalaya, saying Meghalaya is moving ahead and there are signs of positive change.
He also said the present government is not at the mercy of Nalin Kohli and there were very few instances when a government was formed in Meghalaya without the Congress.
“If somebody is coming to Meghalaya for one day and quietly meeting people, how will he know what is going on in Meghalaya?” the chief minister questioned.
When asked about his party’s debacle in the Tura By-poll, the chief minister said people sometimes have short memories and they have to be reminded time and again of the good works. He however admitted that the Congress had missed reminding people about the good works undertaken by it.
Reiterating that he would bury NPP in the 2018 Assembly elections, the chief minister said he stood by his statement and added that the Congress will not suffer from complacency in the 2018 polls.
Asked if ‘dynasty politics’ needs to be avoided to revive the Congress, he said if people choose a leader then he is nobody to stop it.
He mentioned that the Congress led UPA government was serious in addressing the problem of corruption and this was the reason that the government had come up with the Right to Information Act.
He also said that the Congress party has selfless leaders who are working for the people.
Reacting to a query about the Assam election results, he said Congress party has ruled the state in a positive manner and there were instances when businessmen were leaving Assam but all of them reversed back to the state during the tenure of the Congress government.
