SHILLONG: A woman from West Garo Hills has lodged a complaint that way back in 2011 she was detained and manhandled by people who, being influenced by a Nokma, accused her of practicing witchcraft.
The incident happened in December 2011 when villagers of Rongramgre village in West Garo Hills led by Segin B Marak, Nokma of the village, alleged that the woman, Tengjak Sangma was practicing witchcraft.
In this connection, the Nokma had called for a meeting in his house. However, before the complainant could reach the meeting place, the villagers detained her and tore her clothes and threatened her with dire consequences and also attempted to set her house on fire thus compelling her to leave the village.
