SHILLONG: The CSWO strongly objected to the proposal of the State Government to extend the services of outgoing DGP, Rajiv Mehta who is scheduled to retire on Thursday.
“The move reflects badly on the State as it indicates that there is no competent official to replace the current DGP,” the CSWO said in a statement here on Wednesday.
“This cannot be encouraged; it encourages scams to be taken lightly and shelved. It is not legal when law is breached for allowing extension of top boss of law enforcers. The next in line DGP should be immediately appointed,” it added.
The CSWO also urged the State legislators to strongly oppose such moves.
“A Government is not an autocracy but is run by rules and procedures duly laid down. No one can decide who is to be given extension and who is not, violating rules, which is highly irregular and unconstitutional.  Service and Recruitment Rules are clearly to be adhered to and violation of this indicates that the services of these people may be still required to hide scams or some irregularity,” the CSWO said adding that all extensions should be immediately put on hold and Finance Department should stop payments for such extensions.
