Meeting
The 2nd annual general meeting of La Société Littéraire Anglais, Department of English, Lady Keane College, was held on June 29, in the College seminar hall. The meeting was well attended and presided over by chief patron and Principal of Lady Keane College, Dr. C. Massar.
Competition
The Laitumkhrah Mahila Samiti, Shillong, a charitable organisation, is organising a drawing & dance competition for school children from classes I to XI (group wise) on July 2 at R.B Anoopchand Hindi Secondary School, Shillong. Forms are available at Choudhury Pharmacy, Police Bazar and Drugs Store, Laitumkhrah.
Screening
A new film Mere Mehbub directed Faruk Ahmed and starring local actors Eva Dhar, Imran Khan, Ranjita and Rajiv Borah will be screened on July 8 at Eco Park, Cherrapunjee.
Cleaning drive
Swachh Bharat Vertical of Young Indians, which is a part of the Confederation of Indian Industries, will organise a cleaning drive at Police Bazar on June 30 from 6 AM.
Unclaimed body
An unknown male patient (35 years) was admitted in Shillong civil hospital on May 8 and expired on June 24. Concerned relatives have to collect the body from the hospital morgue within three days failing which the body will be send for disposal by the Shillong Municipal Board.
Excise raids
In its continued drive against illicit liquor, Excise staff of East Khasi Hills conducted raids in restaurants/stalls in the town and its outskirts in May, 2016, and detected 31 cases with a seizure of 101.55 litres of i/d liquor and 295.095 litres IMFL. In this connection, 26 persons were arrested under the Excise Act.
