Five IB men missing in Arunachal lCloudburst hits Uttarakhand, 12 killed, 17 under debris

Itanagar/New Delhi/ Dehradun:    At least five persons, including two women and a teenager, were today killed while five others remained missing in a landslide that buried several houses in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district, which is being lashed by torrential rains.
The landslide occurred when a small hillock near the Old Inspection Bungalow caved in and buried several houses in Bhalukpong town, West Kameng district superintendent of police (SP) A Koan said.
While five bodies were retrieved from the debris, five others were still missing as rescue operation had to be suspended due to darkness and would resume tomorrow morning.
A PTI report from New Delhi said five officials of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) are reported missing after landslide and torrential rains hit Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh.
The SP, who is camping at Bhalukpong to supervise rescue operations, said torrential rains in the past couple of days have triggered flood-like situation in the town bordering Assam.
Three persons have been rescued from the debris,he said.
Meanwhile, at least 12 people were killed and 17 trapped under tonnes of debris with little chances of survival, as Monsoon rains on Friday triggered landslides in parts of Uttarakhand.
A huge landslide in Chamoli left 70 yatris bound for Badrinath stranded for hours before they were rescued. NDRF teams were rushed from Delhi to the affected areas in both Pithoragarh and Chamoli districts to help in the rescue operations along with along with SDRF, SSB and ITBP and local agencies, officials said.  (PTI)
