TURA: Local organizations of Tikrikilla along with the village headman have written to the Electoral Registration Officer of West Garo Hills seeking the cancellation of a voter from the State’s Electoral list after he was allegedly found to be a resident of neighbouring State.
The accused, Md. Fazar Rahman, son of one Md. Abdul Karim, a resident of Belakergaon, village under Dhubri District of Assam was found to have registered his name in the Meghalaya Electoral Roll bearing EPIC No YXJ0050815 after fraudulently changing his name to Fazar Sheikh and his father’s name to Muslem Sheikh, while he was the valid holder of EPIC No GCL1716525 with serial No 203 in Assam.
What made the story even more shocking is the fact that he again changed his name in the same ID card to Fazar Rahman and his father’s to Abdul Karim recently on June 7 this year, fearing action from NGOs after he somehow got wind of their investigation into the matter.
Fazar entered his address as Burirjhar Village in West Garo Hills District in the re-corrected ID Card. However, Gaonbura of Burirjhar Village, Samsul Hoque along with other villagers have confirmed that Fazar Rahman and Abdul Karim are non-existent in the village.
Documents like residential certificate, character certificate and provisional certificate obtained by the NGOs from the accused have revealed that Fazar Rahman is a resident of South Salmara under Dhubri District in Assam.
Meanwhile, the local organizations who unearthed the issue have demanded stern action against the accused as well as deletion of his name from the State’s Electoral list.
A copy of their demand has also been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and police station concerned as well.
