TURA: Several NGOs from Garo Hills have written to the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner pointing out that restriction on parking of vehicles and declaration of no parking zones in Tura to ease traffic congestion is not serving its purpose but rather causing inconveniences to the general public.
The AYWO, ADE and FKJGP while appreciating the move to ease traffic congestion has said that as linked road areas like Chandmary, Ringrey and Arai Mile are lined with business establishments, educational institutions, banks and government offices the blanket ban on parking of vehicles was greatly inconveniencing the general public in the absence of a proper parking space.
Reminding that shops and business establishments in these areas are mostly owned by tribal traders, they informed of several complaints received from customers and traders alike who feel that their business is going down due to the restrictions on parking.
They, however, pointed out that the same restrictions at Tura Bazar areas was not affecting the shop owners or the customers as there is surplus parking space and that it was only the tribal traders that were affected.
In order to ease the problems faced by customers as well as to ensure that business is not affected in these areas, they NGOs suggested that parking restrictions are imposed only during rush hours from 8 AM to 10 AM and from 3 PM to 5 PM.
