Nongpoh: The Nongpoh Town Committee on Wednesday received a huge boost when the Dorbar ki Rangbah Shnong, Ri Bhoi, also voiced its protest against installation of a weighbridge at the DTO office campus in Nongpoh.
In a meeting held on Wednesday at Umlyngkdait village, the Dorbar ki Rangbah Shnong, Ri Bhoi, led by its general secretary C.B. Syiem and finance secretary Eddie G. Kharbani, accompanied by the local headman of Umlyngkdait, S. Kharkongor, deliberated on the issue pertaining to the installation of a weighbridge at the DTO office located at Umlyngkdait village under Nongpoh Town Committee.
Members of the Dorbar  ki Rangbah Shnong and the village committee went to the site and found that the measurement device of the weighbridge had already been put in place and construction work was underway.
The Dorbar, meanwhile, extended its support to the Nongpoh Town Committee and committed to opposing the weighbridge at all costs, arguing that it would lead to serious traffic woes and cause severe inconvenience to pedestrians and school going children.
The Dorbar and the Umlyngkdait village authorities have decided to raise the matter with the Transport minister and submit a memorandum against the proposed weighbridge.
