SHILLONG: The new plant at Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL) is likely to begin its commercial operation in two weeks’ time.
Informing this here on Sunday, MCCL Managing Director, Sanjay Goyal said the plant requires certain clearances from the Central Excise department and a pollution clearance before it can start commercial operation.
Reacting to a query, he said the new plant at the moment is producing around 300-350 metric tonnes of cement every day.
It is learnt that the new plant has the capacity to produce 600 tonnes of cements per day.
The modernization of the MCCL was the need of the hour considering the fact that the condition of the plant and machinery had deteriorated due to wear and tear leading to a decline in production.
The Rs 100 crore modernized plant will also consume less electricity.
Set up in the early 1960s, the MCCL is the oldest public sector undertaking in the State and is also the only State owned cement plant.
