Police clueless over death of Assam resident

SHILLONG: Mystery surrounds the death of an Assam resident whose body was recovered from Umbang under Umiam PS on July 10.
Police said the body was found with a syringe in the right hand.
Police said an ID card in the name of Utpal Bezbaruah issued by Akash Hyundai, Lokhra, Guwahati, was recovered from the body.
When contacted, Ri-Bhoi SP G.D. Kharwanlang ruled out any foul play into the incident saying the deceased had not been murdered.
He said police were investigating as to how he reached Umiam and how he died there.
Kharwanlang said that a background checking revealed that the deceased had been a drug addict and had gone to some rehabilitation centre.
Meanwhile, police handed over the body to the relatives and investigation was on to ascertain the cause of the death.
