River Festival begins today

SHILLONG: The two-day River Festival titled ‘Nadi, listen to the river’ will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma at the State Convention Centre on Friday.
The two-day event is being organised by the Asian Confluence, East Asia Centre, Shillong in collaboration with Government of Meghalaya and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Foundation for Asian Studies, Kolkata.
The festival, besides having technical sessions by eminent and distinguished panelists and speakers, will also have two cultural evenings on both days at the Auditorium of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture at Bishop Cotton Road.
Top speakers include the Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister of Bangladesh, Foreign Minister of State, Bangladesh, High Commissioners of India and Bangladesh, former Ambassador of Bhutan, policymakers from Nepal and Myanmar.
The cultural evening is billed as a treat for cultural enthusiasts with performances by troupes from Bangladesh, the Northeast and Meghalaya. Project 21, a Bangladeshi Band will perform Bangla Jazz-Fusion, Nitroshoily Dance Troupe, besides cultural dances by North East Zone Cultural Centre, Geetanjali Dance Academy, Shillong, Manipuri Dance and cultural dances from Meghalaya.
