Solar lighting system installed in Ri-Bhoi villages

SHILLONG: A project for installation of Solar Home Lighting Systems (SHLS) was implemented with the support of Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) under corporate social responsibility initiative in the remote and un-electrified 14 rural villages of Ri-Bhoi on July 14.
Under the project, 515 solar home lighting systems were installed in the houses in the TERI’s flagship campaign, “Lighting a Billion Lives”. The field level activities were coordinated by local organization Donton Solar House represented by Esron Marwein. A statement said that the project has made an impact on over 3000 persons benefitting them directly or indirectly.
The inauguration programme inthis regard held at Umshangktad village, Ri-Bhoi was marked by ribbon cutting ceremony at the house of one of the beneficiaries by Kaikhochin, Deputy General Manager, NERLDC, POSOCO. He also interacted with the women beneficiaries to understand the impact of the project.
