NEEPCO controversy
SHILLONG: Taking strong exception to the alleged anomalies in NEEPCO, especially those relating to the appointment of the new CMD and misappropriation of funds in the organization, the FKJGP has called for immediate appointment of Director, Finance, AGW Kharkongor as the new chief of the corporation. The pressure group also demanded strict action against erring officials of NEEPCO.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, chief organizer of the FKJGP’s central body, Marbud Dkhar said, “It has come to the organization’s knowledge that the PESB (Public Enterprises Selection Board), had in December 2015 recommended AGW Kharkongor, Director, Finance, NEEPCO as the new CMD but complaints were lodged against him with the Ministry of Power so as to disrupt his chances of getting appointed wef July 1, 2016.”
He added that the FKJGP has also taken note of the fact that three FIRs were filed against the Chairman, PC Pankaj, the Director (Personnel) SB Borgohain and Executive Director (Security) PK Jaiswal respectively for alleged extortion.
Raising concerns over the state of affairs in NEEPCO, the FKJGP appealed to the Centre to expedite the appointment of Kharkongor as the new CMD of the corporation besides taking strict action against erring officials of the organisation.
The FKJGP also expressed surprise over the fact that despite the allegations and sequence of events Chief Vigilance officer (CVO), Satish Verma, who was entrusted to scrutinize serious corruption charges against NEEPCO officials, has been transferred with his tenure cut short, apparently to hinder the probe.
The pressure group demanded that all reports submitted by the ousted CVO, Satish Verma be made public.
Earlier, sources had said that the Centre should institute an independent probe into the state of affairs in NEEPCO as the tenure of Verma as CVO was cut short by the handiwork of some vested interests who did not wish to cleanse the mess in NEEPCO.
Meanwhile, if Kharkongor is appointed the CMD of NEEPCO, he will be the first tribal to hold such office in the corporation.
