NONGSTOIN: Umtap Government Lower Primary School in West Khasi Hills district finally got a concrete building after 53 years.
Rambrai Jyrngam MLA KP Pangniang on Wednesday inaugurated the building at Umtap. The Rs 7-lakh project under the Inter State Border Area Development Programme (ISBADP) 2014-15 was implemented by Border Area Development Department.
The government school was housed in a small wooden hut for 53 years and did not get fund for its upkeep.
Speaking on the occasion, Pangniang lauded the efforts of Border Area Development Officer A Lyngdoh.
“Fifty-three years is a long time for the people living in the border area to see development as they were eager to see their children attending school with a smile on their faces,” said the MLA.
